Our Focus on Our Clients

Active Technology is the leading IT Solutions Provider in Aylesbury Vale, Buckinghamshire.  Founded in 1993 by Darran Hamer and Neil Bland, it has grown at an exponential rate on the basis of complete customer service and commitment.  We pride ourselves on being accessible, courteous, and above all extremely knowledgeable in a huge range of IT related areas.

There are so many companies out there, all trying to win your custom.  We are frequently asked by clients why we don't advertise much.  The answer is simple -- by looking after our clients, they advertise for us.  Check out our Testimonials section for a few examples of customer service in action!  Amazingly, we also get a wide range of reaction to our services and products, ranging from 'good grief, that's good value! ' to 'I could get it cheaper elsewhere...'.  It's important to keep in mind the following:

The sweetness of low price is soon forgotten.  The bitterness of poor quality remains forever.

To understand how a product or service can be perceived in such different ways, you have to understand the different types of competition we face.  Usually, they can be broken down in four distinct categories:

1. Hobbyist / Part-Time Reseller

These are often priced very nicely. but if you need some new service or technical support, you'll just have to wait!  Price is the attraction here, not service, as they will almost always lack the resources to do anything other than sell.  Technical knowledge is minimal.  One way to tell if you have a 'hobbyist' supplier is to telephone with a tricky support or sales question and see how long it takes to get a reply.  Chances are it won't happen.  Usually this type of business is only interested in shifting boxes, although they will often proclaim otherwise.

2. Superstores / In-store concessions

These deal in volume, and often appear to offer a range of well-priced services.  Although every effort is made to look like high quality support is offered, it will usually be via premium rate telephone calls by poorly trained staff, or if you sign up to a rip-off "warrantee".  If you're really unlucky, you may experience a combination of these!  Most businesses looking to form a lasting working relationship should avoid this type of supplier like the plague.

3. Small Business Reseller

These usually take the whole enterprise very seriously.  The ones who will survive know that excellent customer service is necessary to grow their business.  You'll find technical support is available fairly quickly.  Often tech support personnel will be on-call and staffed by enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff that will take a keen interest in your business.  Prices are competitive (although not the cheapest) and service is usually very good.

4. Large Resellers / VAR

These have in-house technical support, and often provide many services to businesses, though their level of flexibility is down from the small business reseller.  They aren't so eager to please, so customer service sometimes suffers.  Prices will usually be a lot higher - although the larger corporate customer may consider this an acceptable trade of for the knowledge or support.

It is not hard to work out that Active Technology is firmly in category 3, unfortunately very often confused with category 1 or category 2.

The sad fact is that most people are too cheap to buy things of quality.  Therefore things of quality are only made in small numbers, which in turn makes them that much more expensive. - an Internet quote that hits the nail right on the head.
Almost anyone with a computing related need would benefit from dealing with us.  Here are three typical examples:

1. The small / medium business owner

Within the IT industry, experienced staff are a costly commodity.  With IT staff demanding ever increasing salaries, imagine the benefits of on-hand IT advice and support, but only when you need it.  We become your out-sourced IT department, available for consultancy, advice, support and installations.  In return we give you the benefit of our considerable expertise.  From a single PC to a complete network with Internet/e-mail to desktop and full remote working, we can manage it all for you; maintenance service level agreements a very beneficial but optional extra.

On-site and off-site labour rates are lower than you think (why not find out about our labour rates?).  And when you discover our equipment pricing is as competitive as anyone else, dealing with Active Technology becomes a rather compelling proposition.

2. The experienced IT professional / enthusiast

Active Technology has the parts and equipment that you need.  We understand performance computing, and always have access to the latest, most up-to-date technology.  From motherboards to RAM, network cards and hubs to ISDN TA's, Active Technology not only has these items at extremely keen prices, but we have the knowledge and ability to help you get the most from them.  Talk to people that think as you do.  You spend time evaluating the latest technologies - so do we.  You scan the Internet for performance comparisons, technical information and product evaluations - so do we.   You love the technology and everything about it - so do we.  Let's combine your expertise with ours!

3. The home-user / first-time buyer

With a bewildering array of options assaulting you from all angles, it can be a nightmare knowing which is best for you.  Most companies only want to sell you what they have, not what you need.   Every PC these days is upgradeable, they say; beware though as some are less so than others.  We will explain, in clear English, what it all means.  We will listen to your needs first, and only when we have a clear idea of your aims will we even think about offering you any products.  Ever notice those tempting offers in the high street or Superstores?  It's only when you go to sign up, that the 'Warrantee Agreement'  or 'Insurance Policy' rear their ugly heads.  Suddenly the price has risen by hundreds of pounds.  Active Technology believes in flexible non-pressure sales.  We build, test, assemble, service and upgrade in house.  Usually within 48 hours or quicker, and repair diagnosis is free!  Come in and talk to us - you'll be glad to see a friendly face.
